Short Description Buck Institute CEO investigating ketone signaling and immune aging.
Description Dr. Eric Verdin is President and CEO of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. His laboratory explores how nutrient‐sensing pathways—particularly the ketone body β‑hydroxybutyrate—regulate epigenetic states, inflammasome activation, and metabolic health in aging. Verdin helped uncover the role of the deacylase SIRT5 in ketone metabolism and demonstrated how fasting mimetics remodel immune function. At the Buck he guides 250 scientists and spearheaded the launch of a new translational center to move geroscience discoveries into first‑in‑human trials. A frequent advisor to NIH and the WHO, Verdin bridges basic science and policy while mentoring the next generation of geroscientists.
